The University awarded a contract for RALS Point-of-Care Testing.
Purchase of the RALS Point-of-Care Testing (POCT) device interfaces used to deliver test results and to provide Quality Assurance controls. Devices include blood glucose meters, chemistry analyzers, blood gas analyzers, microcoagulation devices, and rapid flu and COVID analyzers. Interfacing is an essential component of operation of these patient care devices.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) Without the interfaces on POCT analyzers the instruments lose their core purpose of delivering patient results quickly to care providers to aid in decision making. Without results being interfaced and quality control measures being put in place the analyzers are not usable.
