The University awarded a contract for human leukocyte antigen typing.
Kashi Laboratories performs low and high resolution human leukocyte antigen (HLA) typing on UI Health organ, bone marrow, and tissue transplant patients. HLA typing is used to determine a match between a transplant recipient and potential donor.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) Transplants at UI Health have increased significantly over the last three years, and it is necessary to have a partner able to perform this testing as needed and to provide timely results.
