The University awarded a contract for an evaporator and purification system.
The Biotage V-10 evaporator and Biotage Selekt purification instrument will greatly automate our research toward finding new drugs to combat tuberculosis. The Biotage V-10 Evaporator can sequentially transfer and evaporate up to 16 different reactions into individual reaction vials without supervision, utilizes heat along with the combination of vacuum and high speed vial rotation, the instrument can be controlled remotely and in large quantities of solvent can be evaporated into a variety of small vials without supervision in an automated fashion. The Biotage Selekt automated chromatography system is an updated purification instrument can now run at higher psi and flow rate which allows for purification of organic-based (normal phase) or water-based (reverse phase) materials. The test tube racks containing the separated, purified molecules can be directly fitted into the V-10 liquid handler for automated evaporation and only Biotage Selekt tube racks can be used with the V-10.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for performing sponsored research and other sponsored activities under grants and contracts funded by the sponsor or by sources other than State appropriations. (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b)(8)) These new instruments will greatly automate our research toward finding new drugs to combat tuberculosis.
