The University awarded a contract for a MALS-RI detector.
MALS-RI detector consisting of a Dawn Ambient 7th generation multi-angle scattering instrument, WyattQELS - Integrated DLS for Dawn, optilab refractive index detector, Astra 7 software, inline filter kit, ambient cell cleaning kit, and installation.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for performing sponsored research and other sponsored activities under grants and contracts funded by the sponsor or by sources other than State appropriations. (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b)(8)) Having unrestricted access to MALS will greatly facilitate completion of our NIH-funded studies and will lead to a number of high-impact peer-reviewed publications. The NIH-NIGMS recognized such significance and specifically awarded an R01 administrative supplement for the purpose of obtaining this particular instrument. We expect that, thanks to MALS, we will be in a much better position to acquire more NIH funding in future. Also, given that this will be the first (and only) MALS instrument at UIC, we expect that other UIC research groups will use the instrument to further their research programs/projects.
