The University awarded a contract for mobile MRI unit rental.
Renting Mobile MRI Unit while current MRI unit is being upgrade. MRI scanner is used to diagnose a variety of conditions, from torn ligaments to tumors. MRIs are very useful for examining the brain and spinal cord.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) Without a Mobile unit, the Hospital will be lose revenue. The current unit will be out of service until an upgrade is completed. The estimated time frame for this upgrade to be complete is six months.
