The University awarded a contract for a BD Alaris Infusion System Remediation.
The BD Alaris PC unit transmits key drug and infusion therapy data, centralizing access to infusion and monitoring data. This lets us customize infusion delivery by adding large volume pumps, syringe pumps, patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) pumps, and respiratory monitoring modules.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) The medical supplies such as the volume pumps, syringe pumps, patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) pumps, and respiratory monitoring modules provided by the vendor is direct patient care. Without these types of medical pumps and modules, the hospital will not be able to provide medical services of this type and a patient will go elsewhere, which will result in a loss of revenue.
