Project Description
This project includes remodeling of an existing mechanical space in the basement of Loomis Lab to accommodate a new electrical room with a new double-ended unit substation. Total area of this room is approximately 980 sq. ft. The reconfigured space will provide new equipment to replace outdated equipment and allow for future growth of electrical systems. General work includes removal/replacement of those sections of concrete floor slab within the project area that have deteriorated to the point where the slab is no longer serviceable. As part of the electrical upgrade, a new primary (13.8kV) electrical feeder will be brought to the building by UIUC Electric Utilities Division. A new, pad-mounted main disconnect will be provided on the exterior of the building. Primary modifications within the scope of construction will be demolition of an existing double-ended unit substation and replacement with a new double-ended unit, and the construction of a new electrical room that will house the new unit substation equipment. To accommodate the installation of new electrical equipment, a majority of the existing mechanical and plumbing piping and air duct systems installed within the room will be removed or relocated. Asbestos abatement at existing piping to be demolished or relocated will be performed separately, in advance of this project by the univeristy. In addition, a new chilled water fan coil unit will be installed within the room to condition the space. The electrical system will consist of new distribution equipment with new feeders supplying existing equipment. Cabling for remote monitoring of electrical metering will be provided by CITES.
