Project Description
UIC College of Medicine is undertaking a project in the basement level of the Neuropsychiatric Institute (NPI) building located at 950 South Wood Street. Depending upon the final scope of work and available funding, the project may include "shelled" spaces, or multiple phases. The Surgical Innovation and Training Laboratory (SITL) will be a multifunctional space comprised of approximately 16,000 sf. The SITL is intended to provide state of the art teaching and research environments, including housing research animals, for a number of programs within the College of Medicine. Foremost among these would be the primary laboratory space to serve minimally invasive and robotic surgery demonstration and instruction. Additionally this area will house microscopic surgery training, anatomy instruction, surgical simulation and classroom space.
