The University awarded a contract for cage wash detergents and chemicals.
This purchase is for cage wash detergents and chemicals for caging equipment sanitation.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for performing sponsored research and other sponsored activities under grants and contracts funded by the sponsor or by sources other than State appropriations. (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b)(8)) The tanks reduce time spent ordering chemical, processing orders and disposing of totes. Additionally, this allows for predictive ordering rather than relying on Cage Wash staff observations and reporting. The animal facilitys cage wash function is a 365 day-a-year operation requiring rotation of sanitized animal caging equipment to support animal husbandry operations of the as required by law and compliance regulations. No longer using totes meets with UIS sustainability goals and incidentally frees up significant storage space in the BRL RMC is the only vendor using pumped in chemicals rather than totes.
