The University awarded a contract for acrylic teeth, mannequin heads, and typodonts.
Acrylic teeth, mannequin heads, typodonts used in the prepatient clinics to practice on dental preparations of crowns, amalgams, composites, root canals. Mannnequin heads used to simulate patient head and mouth. Teeth used in the patient clinic for wax up of missing teeth, crowns, inlays, onlays to be fabricated in the lab.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) If a different vendor were brought in at this time, changes to the curriculum would need to be done. Modify technics and learning methods for new and existing students, The College of Dentistry has invested in the purchase of special mannequin heads that fit properly all the typodonts already in the inventory. Additional purchase of mannequin heads and typodonts would be necessary and we will incur in a big expense for the College.
