The University awarded a contract for Rees Scientific Presidio Monitoring System.
The Rees Scientific Presidio Monitoring System, specifically designed for laboratory animal research monitoring. This advanced system will facilitate precise and reliable tracking of environmental conditions, ensuring optimal care and compliance in our research settings.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for performing sponsored research and other sponsored activities under grants and contracts funded by the sponsor or by sources other than State appropriations. (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b)(8)) This procurement is in the best interests of the University because it will modernize UIC's eight centrally managed animal facilities by replacing the outdated, decentralized monitoring system. The current system only tracks temperature and lacks uniformity, making it difficult to manage environmental conditions effectively. By installing a cloud-based system that monitors temperature, humidity, light, and pressure in real-time, UIC will enhance animal well-being, ensure regulatory compliance, and improve operational efficiency. This upgrade will not only support better animal care but also improve research outcomes and ensure compliance with key standards such as the Animal Welfare Act.
