Announcement of an Exempt Purchase

Institutional license to access and use materials published in the Journal of Visualized Experiments (JoVE) by UIC employees, faculty and students.

This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for periodicals, books, subscriptions, database licenses, and other publications procured for use by a university library or academic department, except for expenditures related to procuring textbooks for student use or materials for resale or rental. (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b)(5)) This database is being adapted for use in teaching, especially remote teaching of lab protocols. Professors are using this to replace textbooks in some classes as this database has been specifically mentioned in faculty plans to move to open educational resources. The Department of Biology especially would like to use this database going forward for teaching. Overall, use of media is fast growing in higher education, and this database serves our science and health sciences departments.
