Announcement of an Exempt Purchase

ACOG will conduct a review of the Hospital's Obstetricians and Gynecologists (Ob-Gyn) department. This assessment will mitigate our financial risk exposure in Obstetrics through confirming obstetric medical and nursing best practices, as well as identifying any further risk. The scope of the review will be agreed upon by the Hospital and Voluntary Review of Quality of Care (VRQC) staff and may involve review of the overall Ob-Gyn department(s), and/or review of medical procedures, functions, and services.

This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) The purpose of this assessment is to verify a series of process improvements involving obstetric care that were provided by ACOG in 2017 and implemented over the following two years. Obstetric care remains one of the most frequently occurring medical specialties for medical malpractice claims, both nationally and within the state of Illinois. Similarly, the monetary awards for Obstetric cases, either through settlement or litigation remains amongst the highest of all medical specialties.
