The University awarded a contract for RALS Point-of-Care Testing.
RALS Point-of-Care Testing (POCT) device interfaces are used to deliver test results and to provide Quality Assurance controls. Devices include blood glucose meters, chemistry analyzers, blood gas analyzers, microcoagulation devices, and rapid flu and COVID analyzers. Interfacing is an essential component of operation of these patient care devices.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical at a university-operated health care center or dispensary that provides care, treatment, and medications for students, faculty and staff (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) Without the interfaces on POCT analyzers, the instruments lose their core purpose of delivering patient results quickly to care providers to aid in decision making. Without results being interfaced and quality control measures being put in place the analyzers are not usable
