The University awarded a contract for Medela NuTrio Enteral Feeding warming system.
The Medela's NuTrio Enteral Feeding warming system for warming nutritional liquid fed to a neonate (newborn) or pre-term baby (born before full gestation) helps control the infants body temperature. In addition, it helps the baby absorb the formula or milk quickly, when the fluid is closer to core body temperature.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) Medela, LLC NuTrio Enteral Feeding warming system supplies are used in liquid feeding to a neonate that has to do with direct patient care. Without access to these specific supplies the Hospital would not be able to liquid feed neonate patients that would drive patients elsewhere and result in a loss of revenue to the Hospital.
