The University awarded a contract for an absorbable calcium matrix antibiotic carrier.
Absorbable calcium matrix antibiotic carrier used during various orthopedic and neurosurgical procedures. The product supports proactive management of surgical site infections. It is indicated for use to fill a bone void or defect of the skeletal system created by surgery, a cyst, a tumor, osteomyelitis or traumatic injury.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical at a university-operated health care center or dispensary that provides care, treatment, and medications for students, faculty and staff (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) This product is used in highly complicated Ortho spine and Neuro spine procedures and has been deemed by the surgeons to be superior to other calcium matris products on the market. As such, it is necessary to the daily operational needs of the hospital's department of Perioperative Services.
