The University awarded a contract for Provizio Fixed Head SEM scanners.
This exemption is for a consignment agreement for Provizio Fixed Head SEM scanners and Gateway Dashboard. The scanners are used for patients who are at risk of developing pressure injuries. The data is used to formulate appropriate care for the patient. The cost is based on the number of scans.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical at a university-operated health care center or dispensary that provides care, treatment, and medications for students, faculty and staff (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) Without access to these specific scanners, the hospital will be at disadvantage in offering an equitable skin assessment for all skin colors as it's harder to detect sub-epidermal moisture under skin with naked eye in dark skin individuals. Hospital-acquired pressure injuries are also a reportable metric to publicly available databases that have a financial impact to the organization, subsequently driving patients else where and a loss of revenue to the hospital.
