The University awarded a contract for robotic supplies, accessories, and instruments.
This exemption is for the purchase of robotic supplies, accessories, and instruments used by surgical robots in minimally invasive inpatient and outpatient surgical procedures at UI Hospital. The robotic system is used in conjunction with accessories and ancillary instruments such as fenestrated bipolar forceps, needle drivers, ProGrasp forceps, drape kits, cautery hooks, and round-tip scissors. These surgical instruments can be attached to and detached from the robotic system, allowing the surgeon to manipulate tools within the surgical cavity during the procedure.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) These are medical supplies used for direct patient care.
