The University awarded a contract for Radioactive Pharmaceuticals.
Radioactive Pharmaceuticals are needed for the Nuclear Medicine Department. Nuclear Medicine is a medical specialty that uses radioactive tracers (radiopharmaceuticals) to access bodily functions and to diagnose and treat disease.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) Nuclear medicine is a medical specialty that uses radioactive tracers (Radiopharmaceuticals) to access bodily functions and to diagnose and treat disease. Without this supply the patient care will be significantly hampered. GE Healthcare has had an excellent track record of supplying the radiophamaceuticals in a timely manner and this is expected to continue with RLS now that they hare acquired this division.
