The University awarded a contract for prepared and isolated islet cells.
Celltrans will prepare and isolate islet cells from donated pancreases to support islet cell transplantation into patients.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) Celltrans holds a licensing agreement for a proven methodology for the isolation and preparation of islet cells for human transplantation. This therapy is important for the treatment of patients with otherwise uncontrolled diabetes and serves as an important adjunct to pancreatic transplant. These services are required for the University of Illinois Hospital to provide the full spectrum of advanced care for diabetes.
