The University awarded a contract for specialized sterilization supplies.
STERIS provides specialized supplies designed for the sterilization of medical instruments and supplies used in patient care, with a strong emphasis on infection prevention. These supplies are essential for preparing and sterilizing instruments used in surgical procedures. The product offerings include cleaning and descaling solutions that not only sterilize but also protect instruments from damage caused by repeated exposure to water, harsh soils, and multiple reprocessing cycles. Additionally, brushes are available to facilitate effective and efficient manual cleaning and decontamination of surgical instruments.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical at a university-operated health care center or dispensary that provides care, treatment, and medications for students, faculty and staff (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) The medical supplies offered by STERIS Corporation are crucial for patient care. Without these disposables, we would not be able to offer surgical care, which could lead to a loss in revenue for the hospital.
