The University awarded a contract for medical implants.
The implants provided by Arthrex Corporation are versatile anchors suitable for various procedures involving the shoulder, ankle, elbow, knee, and hip. These Arthrex anchors are used alongside fiber wires for knotless soft-tissue repairs, specifically designed for arthroscopic stability procedures of the femoroacetabular joint. Their innovative two-piece design allows for controlled intra-operative suture tensioning before securely anchoring the device in bone, enabling precise tissue reduction. The Arthrex product lineup includes screws, drill bits, an aspirating ablator, a proximal biceps button, a button inserter, fiber loop sutures, free needles, a drill pin, and a shoehorn cannula.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical at a university-operated health care center or dispensary that provides care, treatment, and medications for students, faculty and staff (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) Arthrex Corporation's implants are essential for direct patient care. Without access to these implants, the hospital cannot offer certain orthopedic procedures. Consequently, the University will be unable to perform these procedures, causing patients to seek care elsewhere. This, in turn, will result in a loss of revenue for the University.
