The University awarded a contract for a sleep apnea therapy.
Inspire therapy is an FDA-approved obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) therapy. The small Inspire implant delivers gentle pulses to the airway muscles to keep the airway open and regulate breathing.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical at a university-operated health care center or dispensary that provides care, treatment, and medications for students, faculty and staff (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) The implants provided by Inspire are essential for patient care and particular surgical procedures. Without these implants, surgical services could not provide this patient care, which could result in revenue loss for the hospital.
