The University awarded a contract for CR Bard high-quality surgical and medical supplies.
The procurement of CR Bard high-quality surgical and medical supplies used across multiple specialties, including catheters, biopsy instruments, balloons, coils, stents, drainage systems, tissue markers, and ancillary devices. These products support various diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as ureteroscopy, biopsy collection, urinary catheterization, wound drainage, and vascular interventions. Designed to improve clinical outcomes, Bards devices are commonly used in treating conditions like kidney stones, cancer, and cardiovascular disease.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical at a university-operated health care center or dispensary that provides care, treatment, and medications for students, faculty and staff (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) If not approved, the University hospital will be unable to access essential supplies and implants required for direct patient care. As a result, the hospital will be forced to suspend certain medical services, leading patients to seek treatment elsewhere. This not only compromises continuity of care but also results in a significant loss of revenue for the University and impacts its ability to fulfill its healthcare mission.
