The University awarded a contract for Lease of Surgical Endoscopic Equipment.
Lease of surgical endoscopic equipment, including scopes, instruments, and monitors, used to support a variety of surgical procedures performed in the hospital Operating Room. The equipment is essential to the delivery of surgical services and provides the necessary visualization and instrumentation for applicable procedures.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) Without this exemption, the University may be unable to maintain access to the necessary endoscopic equipment used to perform a variety of surgical procedures in the hospital Operating Room. The equipment is utilized in approximately 50-75% of surgical procedures at UI Health, and any disruption in availability could result in canceled or delayed procedures, reduced patient access, and potential loss of clinical revenue.
