The University awarded a contract for specialty medication.
Specialty medication with limited distribution. These medications treat advanced disease states like Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension and require uninterrupted therapy.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) Sole source medications with limited distribution, not available from the primary distributor, is purchased from Priority Healthcare (Curascript SD) on as needed basis. These medications treat advanced disease states like Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension and require uninterrupted therapy. Medications for PAH treatments are often complex and require extensive follow-up care under our specialist providers at UI Health.
