Announcement of an Exempt Purchase

The server will be used to conduct research within the ACE Center and related projects. Purchase of IT equipment to help facilitate research. Equipment will be used for university purposes and will remain University Property thereafter.

This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for performing sponsored research and other sponsored activities under grants and contracts funded by the sponsor or by sources other than State appropriations. (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b)(8)) The server will both (1) enable us to compile the tools we are building quickly (thus ensuring that the additional work remaining will be accelerated) as well as (2) test out on other non-NVIDIA hardware, therefore ensuring that our workflow can generalize to other architectures.
