The University awarded a contract for overnight medical and patient call services.
This overnight call service is critical to our transplant patients who are high-risk. Providers and labs call our department after hours to report high lab levels or hospitalized patients and need to quickly be routed to our on-call providers in a HIPAA-compliant way.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) The associated contract ensures we are compliant and their service will increase patient safety.
