The University awarded a contract for Ann Foster Ltd/Millennium Counseling Center.
Sports performance, mental health and psychological services for UIC student-athletes, coaches and staff. Services include: one-on-one consultation, game and practice preparation training, injury counseling, team sessions, and leadership development.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) Mental health is as important. The counseling provided to UIC athletes is extremely helpful in all aspects, including but not limited to mental health issues such as depression, isolation, on-line class behavior management, etc. Providing this service to student-athletes is mandatory per NCAA policies and not doing so would create a violation for the department as well as being a disservice to the student-athletes.
