The University awarded a contract for an Electrical Maintenance Program.
The services being requested for the 949 building -1740 West Taylor includes an electrical maintenance program (EMP) to ensure a total of 431 devices are compliant. These devices impact patients and patient care. The (EMP) will assure reliable power for patient care, maintenance of life safety systems that are used for critical care, in addition to reducing risks associated with fire hazards, electrical shock and arc flash.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) If we are not compliant it can cause substantial financial impacts if a electrical or fire event occurs that could have been prevented (human, and structural damages). In addition, hospital electrical maintenance programs fall under governing bodies beyond the NFPA 70-E and The Joint Commission, which includes the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) for patient safety.
