The University awarded a contract for Vertiflex Procedure supplies.
The Vertiflex Procedure is a treatment for lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS). A minimally invasive Interspinous Spacer is used to treat patients suffering from lumbar spinal stenosis with neurogenic claudication. It fills the gap in the continuum of care where these patients are no longer receiving relief from conservative care. It provides patients with a clinically proven, minimally invasive solution that is designed to deliver long-term relief from the leg and back pain associated with LSS.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) This product has to do with direct patient treatment and care. Without access to these medical products the Hospital would not be able to offer complete patient care and that would drive patients elsewhere and result in a loss of revenue to the Hospital.
