The University awarded a contract for professional evisceration and autopsy examination.
UI Health will be utilizing the Chicago Area Autopsy Service for professional evisceration and autopsy examination. Chicago Area Autopsy offers both deaners and pathologist assistants as needed to complete autopsies as requested by our clinicians. Chicago Area Autopsy team will work with our staff, residents, and faculty to provide timely and detailed autopsies for our patients that have passed.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) This procurement is in the university's best interests because it will provide professional evisceration and autopsy examination services. With the advent of Covid, the hospital autopsy examination has increased from an average of 30 per year to 55 examinations. This service will assist our current on-site staff with the additional caseload.
