The University awarded a contract for Subscription Services.
LIB-NOVA will deliver services to the UIC Library via the internet for the purpose of the long term digital preservation of data.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for periodicals, books, subscriptions, database licenses, and other publications procured for use by a university library or academic department, except for expenditures related to procuring textbooks for student use or materials for resale or rental. (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b)(5)) LIB-NOVA provides data preservation for much of the library's research and instruction collection. The cost of data preservation has risen to a point at which it much more cost effective to work with LIB-NOVA. Without this service students, instructors and researchers will not have access to historical information held by the university library.
