The University awarded a contract for implantable intracranial catheters.
The medical equipment provided by Penumbra, Incorporated offers implantable intra-cranial catheters, known as the revascularization system for neurointerventional procedures for ischemic strokes. The component of the system allows the surgeon to work on the proximate surface of the occlusion which eliminated the need for navigation through or beyond the occlusion and thus reduces the trauma to the patient.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) The surgical implant and supplies provided by Penumbra, Incorporated medical supplies have to do with direct patient care service.
