The University awarded a contract for an autoclave steam sterilizer.
PRIMUS autoclave steam sterilizers are designed for laboratory applications including media prep, and sterilization of glassware, instruments, and ancillary lab equipment, as well as laboratory waste.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for performing sponsored research and other sponsored activities under grants and contracts funded by the sponsor or by sources other than State appropriations. (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b)(8)) We have several tenants, including UIC College of Medicine, that use the autoclaves to clean their laboratory equipment. Having clean, sterilized equipment is essential to proper lab research.
