The University awarded a contract for medical supplies.
This purchase is for medical supplies including catheters, chest drainage kits, grafts, stents and ancillaries. All these products are used in patient care and treatment.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) The medical supplies provided by Getinge USA have to do with direct patient care. Without these types of supplies the hospital will not be able to provide the proper medical treatment and patient care. This will result in patients going elsewhere and the hospital taking a loss in revenue.
