The University awarded a contract for cardiac ablation supplies and ancillaries.
This purchase is for cardiac ablation supplies and ancillaries, including the S-Cath, an esophageal temperature probe. These supplies are used in minimally invasive procedures that treat irregular heartbeats, or arrhythmias, by destroying small areas of heart tissue that are causing the problem.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) The medical supplies offered by CIRCA Scientific are crucial for patient care. We would not be able to perform critical procedures without these supplies. As a result, patients may seek treatment elsewhere, which could lead to a loss in revenue for the hospital.
