The University awarded a contract for patient safety devices.
Examples include call buttons and sensors. These sensors work alongside a wireless fall prevention system that communicates with the nurse call station. This setup creates a completely cordless connection, alerting staff when a patient requires assistance and eliminating the tripping hazards associated with traditional wired cords.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical at a university-operated health care center or dispensary that provides care, treatment, and medications for students, faculty and staff (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) The medical supplies offered by Medtec Medical are crucial for patient care. Without these supplies, patients may seek treatment elsewhere, which could result in a loss in revenue for the hospital.
