This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical at a university-operated health care center or dispensary that provides care, treatment, and medications for students, faculty and staff (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) This reliable and quick service is essential to maintaining efficient and safe surgical operations at the hospital. Depending on the circumstances, the Food and Drug Administration may consider third party activities as remanufacturing rather than servicing. Without appropriate training, there is no guarantee the third party can repair products to the correct specifications for safe use.
