W.L. Gore specializes in providing synthetic surgical mesh for surgical procedures. This synthetic surgical mesh is designed to reinforce soft tissue and to reconstruct hernias and soft tissue deficiencies by promoting tissue ingrowth while minimizing tissue attachment.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical at a university-operated health care center or dispensary that provides care, treatment, and medications for students, faculty and staff (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) The medical supplies offered by W.L. Gore are crucial for patient care. Without these supplies, patients may seek treatment elsewhere, which could lead to a loss in revenue for the hospital.
