The University awarded a contract for specialized disposable wristbands.
Taylor Healthcare provides specialized disposable wristbands worn by patients during their stay at UI-health. The patient's medical wristband contains important information related to their surgical stay at UI Health, along with any special medical forms that include patient details, such as their medical history. Hospital wristbands are crucial for ensuring patient safety, as they allow for quick and accurate identification to prevent medical errors. These wristbands display essential patient information, including name, date of birth, and medical record number, ensuring that the correct patient receives the appropriate treatment. Additionally, color-coded wristbands alert staff to specific needs or conditions, such as allergies or Do Not Resuscitate orders, further enhancing patient safety. All of these supplies, including specialized medical forms, are vital for surgical procedures and the routine care of patients.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical at a university-operated health care center or dispensary that provides care, treatment, and medications for students, faculty and staff (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) The medical supplies offered by Taylor Healthcare are crucial for patient care. Without these supplies, we can put patients at risk for improper care which could result in a loss in revenue for the hospital.
