The University awarded a contract for coronary supplies and accessories.
This exemption is for coronary supplies and accessories to support interventional cardiologists in diagnosing and treating coronary artery disease. The supplies consist of guide wires, catheters, sheaths, stents, and balloons.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical at a university-operated health care center or dispensary that provides care, treatment, and medications for students, faculty and staff (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) Boston Scientific supplies are essential for direct patient care. Without access to these supplies, the hospital cannot offer patient care. Consequently, the University will be unable to perform patient care, causing patients to seek care elsewhere. This would result in a loss of revenue for the University.
