The University awarded a contract for post-hospital care.
The Pearl at Hillside is a healthcare facility that offers a variety of services. Post-hospital care refers to the medical care and support provided to patients after they have been discharged from the hospital. This care aims to assist with recovery, facilitate a return to daily life, and prevent complications. Services may include medication management, physical therapy, and home health care.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical at a university-operated health care center or dispensary that provides care, treatment, and medications for students, faculty and staff (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) Without this agreement, the alternative is either indefinite custodial care within UI Hospital --a costly and inappropriate solution --or discharges to unstable or unsafe environments, which are inconsistent with our obligations under ethical discharge planning standards and the CMS Conditions of Participation.
