Announcement of an Exempt Purchase

This exemption is for surgical supplies including handheld surgical staplers, stapler reloads, stylets, mesh, tracheal tubes, and ancillary items.

This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical at a university-operated health care center or dispensary that provides care, treatment, and medications for students, faculty and staff (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) These supplies are essential for direct patient care. Without access to these supplies, the hospital cannot offer patient care. Consequently, the University will be unable to perform patient care, causing patients to seek care elsewhere. This, in turn, will result in a loss of revenue for the University.
