Announcement of an Exempt Purchase

This exemption is for feed and bedding supplies for use in the care of laboratory grade animals in the Biologic Resources Laboratory animal facilities.

This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for performing sponsored research and other sponsored activities under grants and contracts funded by the sponsor or by sources other than State appropriations. (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b)(8)) Feed and bedding supplies are necessary in the required daily care of laboratory animals. Envigo can provide a fixed formulation diet that decreases the amount of variation in dietary constituents in ongoing animal studies that could jeopardize experimental results or have a negative influence on the well-being of the approx 42,000 laboratory animals housed in the UIC campus animal facilities.
