The University awarded a contract for blood gas analyzer supplies.
The Werfen blood gas analyzer supplies are essential for obtaining patient vitals. They provide rapid and accurate measurements of oxygen, carbon dioxide, and pH levels in the blood, which are crucial for assessing a patient's respiratory and metabolic status. These supplies are used in conjunction with the analyzer to quickly analyze heparinized whole blood samples for various parameters, including blood gases, electrolytes, metabolites, and CO-oximetry. The supplies consist of a disposable cartridge that contains all the necessary components for patient blood testing.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical at a university-operated health care center or dispensary that provides care, treatment, and medications for students, faculty and staff (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) Werfen pathology testing supplies are crucial for providing direct patient care. Without these supplies, the hospital cannot deliver essential services, leading to a situation where patients may seek care elsewhere. This would ultimately result in a loss of revenue for the University.
