The University awarded a contract for hemostatic agents and implants.
Davol provides hemostatic agents and implants designed for use in surgical procedures to control bleeding, particularly when traditional methods like sutures or electrocautery are inadequate. These products serve as an adjunct or alternative to conventional techniques, especially in cases of diffuse bleeding, bleeding near sensitive structures, or when standard methods are not practical. The available supplies include gelatin-based sponges, hemostatic powders and ancillaries such as applicators.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical at a university-operated health care center or dispensary that provides care, treatment, and medications for students, faculty and staff (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) The Davol hemostatic agent supplies are essential for delivering direct patient care. Without these supplies, the hospital cannot provide crucial services, which may lead patients to seek care elsewhere. This situation could ultimately result in a loss of revenue for the University.
