The University awarded a contract for bariatric medical equipment.
Agiliti provides essential bariatric medical equipment to meet the needs of patients, ensuring quicker recovery. Bariatric equipment refers to medical devices and furnishings specifically made to comfortably accommodate individuals who are overweight or obese. Examples include beds, walkers, commodes, and chairs and recliners.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical at a university-operated health care center or dispensary that provides care, treatment, and medications for students, faculty and staff (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) The Agiliti bariatric medical equipment is essential for direct patient care. Without access to these supplies, the hospital cannot offer patient care. Consequently, the University will be unable to perform patient care, causing patients to seek care elsewhere. This, in turn, will result in a loss of revenue for the University.
