The University awarded a contract for surgical instrument repair and maintenance.
This exemption is for repair and maintenance of surgical instruments including sterile and non-sterile instruments, positioning items like stirrups, and scopes.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) These instrument repairs are necessary to maintain the daily operational needs of Perioperative Services. Without these repairs, we will not be able to provide certain procedures. This will result in a loss in revenue.
