The University awarded a contract for urology medical supplies.
The Cook Medical urology products are minimally invasive medical supplies that are used in medical procedures to diagnose and treat urological conditions, such as kidney stones and urinary obstructions. The supplies consist of wire guides, sheaths, dilators, needles, catheters, and additional ancillaries.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical at a university-operated health care center or dispensary that provides care, treatment, and medications for students, faculty and staff (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) Cook Medical supplies are essential for direct patient care. Without access to these specific supplies, the hospital would be unable to provide certain urological procedures. This would lead patients to seek treatment elsewhere, resulting in a loss of revenue for the hospital.
